SharePoint Versions

This post provides a rough guide to version information on:

Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 and Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010

Using SharePoint 2010 Central Administration Web site, under Upgrade and Migration, click Check product and patch installation status to show version numbers. Click the iconPatch Status page icon to the right of the SharePoint 2010 product name, in the list below, to see a screenshot of the Manage Patch Status page.

You can also use the Windows PowerShell command, (get-spfarm).BuildVersion, however that can show a different version number from the web page. When the BuildVersion from Windows PowerShell is different from the number shown CA web page it is shown in brackets below:

Note: Microsoft has released a SharePoint 2010 Information Worker and Evaluation (SP1) virtual machine, which you can find at the Microsoft download site.

SharePoint Portal Server 2001 and SharePoint Team Services

If you have a version number starting with 10, then it is either SharePoint Team Services (SPTS) or SharePoint Portal 2001 (SPS 2001).

  • SPTS, 10.0.2627.01 is the version with no service packs. In the Administrative Tools menu, you will see a link to Microsoft SharePoint Administrator. This will display a web page, where you can see the version number of the virtual server(s), e.g., 5.0.2.2623. The ISAPI filter is fpexedll.dll.
  • For SPS 2001, 10.145.4629 is the version number with no service packs. There will be no ISAPI filter, and from the Administrative Tools menu you will see a link to SharePoint Portal Server Administrator which launches a mmc snap-in.
